Off to Belize

Just found out that you can´t extend the 90 day tourist visa that you get when you enter Guatemala!

So tomorrow I´ll be starting to travel towards Belize so that I can leave the region that the visa is valid for and then come back again. So I think I´ll spend the next few days on the road and then explore Belize for a couple of weeks. The question is, do I then explore Mexico and do my Cuba trip with the possibility that I don´t make it any further down Central America, or do I travel Belize and then head back down south.

Will post photos of Copan Ruins tomorrow.

Copan

I´m now in Copan. Fell in with an Irishman and a Norwegian on the way here and ended up drinking far too much last night. Luckily they left this morning for Guatemala so hopefully tonight will be a bit more calm.

The ruins here are very tranquil. Perfect place for hangover. Will post some photos tomorrow.

On the move again.

Tomorrow I'll be off to Copan. Which means another early start, up at 5am! I could get a later bus, but there are some other people leaving with the early bus and its much more pleasant travelling as a group.

So, it's off to bed for me soon. I am knackered.

Moskitia - Day 7 Back to La Ceiba

Early start this morning. Up at 2:30am to jump on a boat back to Batalla and then onto the pick up truck for another 6 hour buttuck destroying ride along the beach and dirt roads.

It was beatifully clear and we had the stars and the moon for the boat ride. The pick up truck was its usual chaos with far too many people crammed on board, but eventually we all got comfortable. On the trip to come here I remember thinking that although the truck seemed to be tilting over quite far on the beach that it probably wasn't as bad as all that (it always feels like you are tipped over much further than you actually are). This time there was a truck following us so I got to see it from the outside. It is quite terrifying.

We got stuck in the sand a few times and had to tow someone out of an inlet that was a little bit too deep for them, but all in all, it was pretty uneventful = apart from the two kids sat next to me who through up almost constantly (poor things).

Interesting moment - a girl stopped the truck to sell an Iguana to the driver. 100 Limperas gets you a tasty iguana for dinner!

Back in La Ceiba and tomorrow is another early start to catch the bus to Copan.

Moskitia - Day 6 Back to Raista

Another early start, up at 6:30 to get the boat back down the river and head back to Raista. We only bottomed the boat out a couple of times, so the trip was pretty uneventful.

In the evening we were treated to a Mosquitia cultural evening of dancing from the local women.

Which of course, we had to join in with!
